Hello!

Hey everyone! This is the blog of flutes and their lovers! Me being a big band geek, I thought this would be the perfect blog. I can give advice on how to fix a flute, how much they cost, the different types, and if you're a band director, where to find some good sheet music. Welcome! :)

The Bass Flute

This flute evolved in 1920 as a replacement for a saxophone. It's a complete octave lower than the concert flute, though it has the same fingerings. They have a J-shaped head, and produce a haunting melody in the lower keys. The bass typically has a B-foot, while concert flutes typically have a C-foot. Many who play this flute have a string to hold it upright, as it is much heavier than a concert flute. One other solution to this problem is taking a black stand, flip it over, place a towel over the top, and rest the end of your flute on top. The recommended brand is Jupiter, if you're looking for a cheaper, yet higher quality Bass Flute.

  1. Which scale does it play? I play the concert flute, which plays the Bb scale. :)
